# Build with Parkes

> Work with your organization's skills, knowledge, connections, and automations through the REST API.

The Parkes API gives your applications access to the resources and workflows you use in Parkes. Read and manage skills, work with knowledge documents, and start and observe automated work.

Every credential is scoped to **one organization**. Requests use the same resource paths across organizations; your token determines which organization's data you can access.

## Make your first request

The REST API base URL is:

```text theme={null}
https://api.parkes.ai/rest/v1
```

Start with [the quickstart](https://developers.parkes.ai/QUICKSTART.md) to check your authenticated identity and retrieve a page of skills. Read [authentication](https://developers.parkes.ai/AUTHENTICATION.md) to understand credentials, scopes, and organization access.

## Explore the API

Prefer working in your terminal? The [Parkes CLI](https://developers.parkes.ai/cli/OVERVIEW.md) handles authentication, pagination, and resource commands for you.

The **API reference** tab includes each endpoint's parameters, request body, response schemas, and supported error responses. Use it to find the exact contract for the operation you're building.

| Work with | What you can do |
| - | - |
| Skills and knowledge | Manage reusable instructions and the documents they use. |
| Connections and integrations | Inspect connected systems and their configuration. |
| Automations and runs | Configure triggers, start work, and observe progress. |
| Members and invitations | Manage organization access within your permissions. |
| Activity and operations | Follow changes and track asynchronous work. |

## Build reliable clients

* Follow [pagination](https://developers.parkes.ai/PAGINATION.md) cursors to retrieve collections.
* Use [idempotency keys and conditional writes](https://developers.parkes.ai/WRITES.md) to retry safely and avoid overwriting changes.
* Handle [errors and rate limits](https://developers.parkes.ai/ERRORS.md) using the response status and structured error code.

[Download the OpenAPI specification](https://developers.parkes.ai/openapi.json) to inspect the contract or generate a client.
